Hurricane Season Prep: Protecting Your Los Cabos Vacation Home

Los Cabos is stunning almost every day of the year, but from June through November it also sits in the Pacific hurricane belt. Tropical storms can strengthen quickly, sometimes giving coastal communities like Chileno Bay, Querencia, Palmilla, and Diamante only a few days of real warning. For owners who split their time between Los Cabos and somewhere else, that’s the exact scenario a property manager exists for.

Before the Season Starts

Good hurricane prep doesn’t start when a storm appears on the forecast, it starts months earlier. Ahead of the season, we go through every property on our roster and check the items that tend to fail under wind and rain: roof flashing, drainage around the property, shutters and impact windows where installed, and backup power. Outdoor furniture, umbrellas, and anything that could become a projectile in high wind gets an inventory so it can be stored quickly when needed.

When a Storm Is Approaching

  • Secure or bring inside all furniture, decor, and equipment on patios, terraces, and pool decks.
  • Board or shutter exposed windows and glass doors where a property calls for it.
  • Shut off exterior gas lines and disconnect non-essential electronics.
  • Clear drains, gutters, and roof areas of debris so water has somewhere to go.
  • Photograph the property’s condition beforehand, which matters for insurance if anything is damaged.
  • Confirm generator fuel and emergency supplies for properties that will be occupied through the storm.

After the Storm Passes

The hours right after a storm are when a local team matters most. We walk every property in person to check for roof, window, and water damage, restore power and water systems, and get a first set of photos and notes over to the owner before they’ve even heard from the neighbors. If repairs are needed, we already have the vendor relationships in place to get someone out quickly instead of waiting behind everyone else calling around after the same storm.

Peace of Mind From Wherever You Are

That’s really what hurricane season prep comes down to: knowing your property is being watched by people who live here, not just checked once a year. Whether you’re in Los Cabos full time or thousands of miles away, our team handles the before, during, and after so you’re never finding out about storm damage from a stranger’s social media post. If you would like to talk through a hurricane readiness plan for your property, reach out to Bellamare and we will walk you through exactly what we do.
